Hi friends,
I just read this in Seattle Gay News, and wanted to spread the word around.

Dear SGN,
The citizens of several states are going to vote on a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage in a few short months. As the state of Missouri showed us recently when it passed its Marriage Amendment, it is time for the GLBT community to come together and take action.
My partner and I live in the state of Georgia, one of the states that is also voting on an amendment. We have been together for 10 years. We have moved across the country together when our jobs required it. We own a home together. We share all of our days together the same way so many other GLBT couples do.
We have never been activists, but as we watched our state legislators vote for the amendment here in our home state, we decided we had to do something.
We brainstormed.
What if we set a date for all of America's GLBT community to "drop out" of the economy? What if all GLBTs and their straight allies stayed home from work for the day? What if they didn't purchase anything? What if they didn't use their cell phones? What if gay business owners decided to close their doors for the day? What if all the dancers and singers on Broadway stayed home for the day? And so on ...
What a profound effect we could have on productivity and the bottom line if a large portion of the U.S. GLBT population and their allies participated.
Our major obstacle would be getting the word out. So, we ask you to spread the word. The date is October 8. The website is www.boycottforequality.org. Go sign the petition on the site. Go fill out your paperwork for personal day from work. Stay home. Clean. Spend time with friends.
Clearly, the lawmakers are not aware that over 22 million of us pump about $500 billion per year into the economy.
Let's show them.
